The youth hostel, in the small village of Al-Tod, makes a significant addition of inexpensive, yet high-quality accommodation for young visitors to Luxor and Aswan, estimated to number around 10,000 a year.
The hostel is among the biggest in the world with 600 air-conditioned rooms capable of hosting up to 1,200. The six-story building has two floors dedicated to foreign visitors and an entire floor for Egyptian families. The remaining floors are for entertainment and educational services, including lecture halls, internet cafes and a 500-seat movie theater.
The hostel grounds also have a swimming pool and three football pitches: two five-a-side fields for pick-up games among the guests  and one full-sized pitch designed to host the national team’s training sessions.
Around the hostel, Al-Tod has opened several food outlets and shops offering traditional arts and crafts, local goods and souvenirs.
The enormous, LE 50 million hostel may be one of the best equipped in the world .From the earliest planning stages, the hostel was designed to international standards as it would be a cornerstone in cultural exchange programs between Luxor and other cities around the world. Luxor has exchanges with cities in the United States, China and Bulgaria.
The village of Al-Tod lies on the outskirts of Luxor and has transportation to the center of the city. In addition, Al-Tod hosts several historic buildings including a Pharaonic shrine and two small Coptic monasteries.
Getting to Al-Tod has gotten easier for the out-of-towner with the opening of a world –class train station that accommodates the sleeper and express trains .Several daily trips are planned  between Al-Tod and luxor.
